Jeswita, Business Development Intern shares her experience of attending PGDayHyd2024
Attending and participating in PGDay Hyderabad 2024 as a Business Development Intern at OpenSource DB was a significant experience, especially since I had only been with the company for less than a month. As a newbie, the prospect of attending such a large event was quite daunting. However, with the support, guidance, and encouragement from my team members, I quickly felt at ease.
The event, #PGDayHyd2024, was a vibrant platform where individuals collaborated and discussed PostgreSQL: The World’s Most Advanced Open Source Relational Database. The event attracted companies that utilize PostgreSQL, many of which shared their solutions and contributions with the attendees. Speakers presented their professional experiences, Case studies, discussed failure stories, and explored opportunities for improvement.
My Experience As A Volunteer
During PGDay, I had the opportunity to volunteer, which involved tasks such as managing attendee registration and addressing questions about the “Postgres Women India” community. This community is an initiative aimed at empowering Women in Data & AI. It was a great experience to be part of something that our company is driving at the ground level.
At the start of the event, I found it challenging to handle the large crowd at the registration desk alone, but I received much-needed support from other volunteers. Engaging with participants was initially nerve-wracking, but thanks to the encouragement from my colleagues, I gained the confidence to carry out my duties effectively. Despite being an intern, I appreciated the challenge as it provided me with valuable learning opportunities.
One of the highlights of my experience was discussing the Postgres Women India initiative with attendees. It was gratifying to share information about this community, which helps women enhance their Postgres skills and, in turn, boost their careers. The Postgres Women India community is dedicated to women who are passionate about database technology. I got a chance to talk about the following initiatives:
• Upskill Program
• Woman of the Month
• My Favourite PostgreSQL Feature
This platform allows women to express their technical proficiency, showcase their skills, and develop careers in Data and AI.
Overall, I gained valuable insights into event organization and identified areas where I can improve my skills. This experience has been instrumental in helping me grow both personally and professional.
