Welcome to the January 2026 edition of the OpenSource DB Bulletin!
January Highlights
OpenSource DB at SAINTS 2026: Advancing Open Science with PostgreSQL
We’re proud to share that our Founder, Hari Kiran, represented OpenSource DB at SAINTS 2026, hosted by Christ University, Bangalore, where he delivered an insightful session on “PostgreSQL as a Catalyst for Open Science and Sustainability.”
The talk highlighted how open infrastructure—especially PostgreSQL—plays a critical role in addressing key challenges in modern research. From improving reproducibility and reducing vendor lock-in to enabling equitable, borderless collaboration, PostgreSQL is emerging as a powerful foundation across domains such as climate science, healthcare analytics, and urban sustainability.
This session strongly echoes what we believe at OpenSource DB:
open-source databases are not just technologies, but enablers of innovation, digital sovereignty, and long-term societal impact.
We’re grateful to the SAINTS 2026 team and Christ University for creating a platform that fosters meaningful conversations around open data, sustainable science, and inclusive research ecosystems.

Here’s to building the next decade together—with openness at the core and community leading the way.
Women for Data Summit 2026
Empowering Women in Data, AI, and Open Source
30th January 2026
JNTUH, Hyderabad
Women for Data Summit 2026, the second edition of this community-led initiative, was successfully conducted on 30th January 2026 at JNTUH, Hyderabad, bringing together 85+ participants from across industry and academia.
The summit served as a vibrant platform for professionals, researchers, and students passionate about Data, AI, and Open Source to connect, learn, and collaborate. Building on the success of the inaugural edition, this year’s event featured an inspiring speaker lineup and a thoughtfully curated agenda focused on real-world applications, open-source innovation, and leadership journeys.
A key highlight of the summit was the interactive “boxing bout”–style sessions, which sparked engaging discussions, encouraged rapid idea exchange, and created a highly participative learning environment.
We were especially delighted by the enthusiastic involvement of students from MRVV, JNTUH, and JNTU Jagtiyal, whose curiosity and energy added immense value and reinforced our commitment to nurturing the next generation of women leaders in technology.
The event welcomed attendees from diverse backgrounds, with speaker opportunities exclusively for women, continuing our mission to spotlight and celebrate women’s contributions in Data, AI, and Open Source.
We extend our sincere thanks to all the speakers, partners, volunteers, and participants who made Women for Data Summit 2026 a meaningful and impactful success.
